Software Engineering

We design, produce, and deliver software systems that give our customers the edge in geospatial technology. Pelican will build software applications or modules using our own innovative technology components, or spec out a custom application based on our customers' requirements and schedule.

Our Approach to Software

Every customer is different. Some hand us a requirements document and don't come back until the job is done. More often though, customers today are more interactive and want to be actively involved in the entire process. Also, rare is the project that can be fully defined at the outset. Our production methodology emphasizes transparency and accounts for the inevitable evolution of a software product throughout development.

Our software development process includes:

Specification : We start with a high-level list of functions the software needs to perform. This forms the basis for costing.
Source control : We maintain all source code in a secure Subversion repository and will give you access to it.
Issue tracking : We use web-based issue tracking systems to manage bugs, changes and new requirements.
Collaboration : We employ web-based collaboration and project management tools so you can participate in the process.
Incremental delivery : We plan for many interim releases along the way. Sometimes the only way to know if something is right is to try it.
